John Warren - Rock and Steel Sculptures

Artist Statement

Fabricated steel sculpture can be very graphical in it's appearance. Typically, I build from mild steel and found objects. The tools that I use are oxyacetylene cutting torch, 5000 rpm steel grinder and an electric arc welder. With these basic tools many prospective artifacts can be created. Industrial processes are combined with aescetic judgement.

I allow my sculptures to oxidize to a rich, rusty brown. I love the aged look.

Architectural and functional works are often commissioned. These include furniture, gates and panels. My work transcends typical architectural iron. The pieces I fabricate are unique artworks.

Rockfish Sculpture are an 'open-ended' series which consists of a natural surf tumbled stone encased in a fabricated steel fish shape. As every individual stone is unique, each rockfish is a species unto itself.

Most of Warren's work is by commission only. Customers should be willing to wait approx. 9-12 months for completed commission. A special collection is created each year for the Festival of the Arts in Laguna Beach each summer and some older pieces are available. Please call for pricing and more info.
