Julia Bulette

Born in England of French parentage, Julia Bulette, at an early age moved to New Orleans with her family, but in 1859 she migrated to Virginia City, Nevada. She quickly became one of the most popular and expensive of the "Womwn of the Evening" the west had ever seen. Her clients consisted of bankers, wealthy silver miners, mayors, and big time cattlemen. But her steady boyfriend was the chief of the Vol. Fireman's Brigade# 1.

Julia had another side and she donated heavenly to charitable organizations. They made her and honorary fireman, and when a fever epidemic fell upon the town, she turned her brothel into a temporary hospital. She even sold her prized fur and jewelry to purchase food for the stricken. Misfortune struck, however, and in 1867 she was murdered by a thief. the women of the town would not permit her to be buried in hallowed ground so he was interred 200 yards from the cemetery, on a hill, in a conspicuous spot where her grave could be seen from a local saloon. Two Thousand persons attended the funeral, all of them men, and her tombstone marker was the headboard of her bed. This engraved plaque is is on the back of the bronze headboard
